The Eden Rock Hotel, nestling into the startlingly blue ocean surrounding the classy Caribbean island of St Barths, evolved from an imaginatively sited house built fifty years ago by Remy DeHaenen, a celebrated local adventurer and Mayor of the island.
In 1995, the property was bought by an English couple - David & Jane Matthews - who intended to use it as a private holiday home. However, a small bar was operating ... which was kept running ... a new team of amiable young people was recruited… one thing followed another ... a considerable amount of money was spent… and five years later Eden Rock Hotel was invited to join the world class Relais & Chateaux group of ultra-luxe hotels.
These days Eden Rock employs one hundred and forty staff to look after sixty-six guests. Use of the famous French word “non” is banned at Eden Rock – come and test us out…”
